Learn to Ride

Bikeability Learn to Ride uses a series of engaging activities and games that will demonstrate step by step the key skills children require to learn how to ride a bike without stabilisers.  

What will the children learn?

•              Get on and off the bike without help

•              Start off and pedal without help

•              Stop without help

•              Ride along without help for roughly one minute or more

•              Make the bike go where they want

•              Demonstrate an understanding of safety equipment and clothing

•              Carry out a simple bike check

Balance

Develops those crucial early cycle handling and awareness skills using engaging and progressive games to encourage children to improve a variety of skills.  Using a Balance Bike (bike with no pedals), the children can focus on their ability to balance, manage their speed and control their bike. Through this development, the children should be ready to progress to pedal cycle training (Learn to Ride) at the end of the course.

What will children learn?

• Children will be able to identify the parts of a balance bike.
• Children will get on and off a balance bike comfortably.
• Set off with control.
• Push and glide.
• Stop with control with both feet and with the brakes.
• Make the bike go where they want.
• Be aware of their surroundings.
  
  

Please note that we only have a limited number of bicycles & helmets to borrow, this may mean children have to share during the session. Your child may pefer to use their own bike & helmet if they have one.
